Cedar Point Historical Museum to Host Book Signing

The Downtown Sandusky Cedar Point Historical Museum, inside the Merry-Go-Round Museum, will be hosting a book signing event for a new book on the history of Cedar Point from Noon to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 7. The book signing event is included with admission to the Merry-Go-Round Museum and also includes a ride on the fully restored Allan Herschell carousel.

A new book titled Cedar Point Memories by James A. Rogers has been published by Arcadia Press. Mr. Rogers will be present and will speak briefly about the book and what it contains at 12:30, 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. He will be present during the entire event and available to sign books.

The book features many photos which have never been published in any Cedar Point history book, including such items as the Cedar Point Zoo which was present in the early 1900s, a circus at Cedar Point, a 1941 view of a Shoot the Rapids boat splashing down in the Lagoons, surrounded by nothing but trees and water, the Blue Beard’s Castle (fun house) which was located next to the Wax Museum, and photos of the early planes that offered rides to “see the peninsula from the air”, taking off from the water, circling the peninsula, and landing again on the water before pulling up to the beach, including a 1919 photo of a plane which was on the beach by the former Cedars Hotel.

The title Cedar Point Memories indicates that every one of the photographs shows rides and attractions which are no longer at the park. There are memories of Cedar Point throughout its history, including rides that have left the Point in recent years such as the Space Spiral, the Demon Drop, the Wildcat roller coaster, the Aquarium, the Dolphin Stadium, the Upside Down Fun House, the Paddle Wheel Excursion, the Pirate Ride, and the San Francisco Earthquake ride.

The author – James A. Rogers – and his wife Janet Wiant Rogers, have visited Cedar Point together for 55 years. Janet graduated from Norwalk High School and Kent State University. Jim is a member of the American Coaster Enthusiasts and has authored several articles on Ohio’s historic roller coasters. He looks forward to meeting other Cedar Point fans at the Downtown Sandusky Cedar Point Historical Museum, inside the Merry-Go-Round Museum, on June 7th between noon and 3:00 p.m.

The Cedar Point Historical Museum acts as a repository for thousands of items spanning from the 1890’s to the present. The displays, both physical and audiovisual in nature, are sure to rekindle fond memories.
